The API bill at 1M to 100M tokens a day

There is, and sometimes it is the best deal on this page. Whether it works for you comes down to three things.
One flat price
$200 a month, about $7 a day, covering both the Claude app and Claude Code. For one person working interactively all day, very likely a good deal. The fee stays $200 even if all you need is a cheaper model.
Limits bring per-token back
Automation burns through plan limits quickly. Past them, Anthropic sells usage credits at standard API rates, and you are back to paying per token.
Products need the API
In most cases, consumer terms rule out reselling, account sharing, and commercial use. So a product you sell to others runs on the API, per token.

But Claude models are best in class
Often true. But most volume work never touches that extra intelligence: classifying tickets, extracting fields, summarizing calls, routine agent steps. Strong open-source models handle these well, and this kind of work is where most of a pipeline's tokens go.
The usual answer is a split: a frontier model where it earns its price, and the high-volume part on cheaper tokens.
